With winter well and truly coming to an end this week, it's time to embrace spring wholeheartedly. While farmers and gardeners are sowing seeds and runners are out in force on the Valley Trail, skiers and snowboarders are still enjoying a 300cm+ snow base here in Whistler. With long, sunny days ahead, spring ski touring is shaping up for excellent conditions for April and May. With that in mind, we've picked a few items from our spring sale catalog to get you out on new gear now or pick up end of season steals in preparation for the 2016/17 winter.
The Black Diamond Factor MX and Diamir Vipec 12 touring binding
Ski Touring Hardgoods
No matter what time of year it is, everyone seems to be in the hunt for a new touring setup. Quality gear can be hard to find early and mid-winter with deals being snapped up by backcountry bargain hunters. Good thing we have some items still on the shelf.
The Diamir Vipec 12 touring binding combines the featherweight pintech design with the functionality of a pre-determined release value. That means the ski comes off when it's supposed to, making it ideal for skiing resort conditions as well as backcountry touring.
If you're still on the fence about buying a 100 per cent-specific backcountry boot and seek the reliable stiffness of an alpine boot, the Black Diamond Factor MX gives you all that with a surprising 40 degrees of motion in walk mode. It's not the lightest boot out there, but the versatility as a resort skier gives it an edge. For those intending to walk mostly in touring bindings the Black Diamond Quadrant slims down the weight while retaining sufficient stiffness for most skiers. A good choice for folks with wider feet that can't fit into Dynafit model boots. If you have the Dynafit fit, the Dynafit Khion Carbon represents the Ferrari of freeride touring boots that eliminates play between cuff and lower boot that plagues so many other designs on the market. Get it now for a less-than-Ferrari price.
Match made in heaven. The Beta AR Shell and Atom Glove Liner supplanted the legendary Alpha SV Glove last year
There's a reason we've been selling Arcteryx since the brand launched in North Vancouver over 25 years ago. It's some of the most solid build quality and innovative design in the industry. Snap up a deal on these items today and enjoy a lifetime warranty.
We were big fans of the Alpha SV Glove, which has now diverged into the Beta Shell Glove with Atom Glove Liner. A slightly warmer one-piece version is available as the Lithic Glove.
If you haven't already got a duffel bag for travelling, these are incredibly useful for throwing into the trunk of a car or helicopter cargo space. We have 50 and 75 liter versions on sale.
Be cold weather ready next winter with the Stratus LS Hoody and Oasis Legless thermals.
The world's most popular merino wool brand Icebreaker is always in high demand when the weather turns cold, so pre-empt the fall panic buy with a smart spring purchase. We currently have Oasis and Zone Legless thermals available in all sizes in both mens and womens (Oasis only), as well as a long list of tops in a variety of styles and weights. One of our favorite cold weather jackets from last year was the incredibly toasty Stratus LS Zip, on sale in the womens hoody and mens jacket versions.
The weather may want you to shop for summer already, but prepare for next winter now and save some of you well-earned money. With Whistler Blackcomb extending their season until May 30 there's still plenty of turns and even some powder days left. For more deals on offer right now, check out our Spring Sale page.
